31 March 2025

A round up of all the feature releases and product updates relating to Insytful in March 2025.

March just flew past; I can't believe it's nearly April already. This month, we finally released our Sections feature and resolved some Jira tickets from 2021 🎉!

We have also refactored some behaviours around adding words to the dictionary and updating the quality-of-life user interface.

Sections 📁

Sections have finally made it out of the 2021 Jira backlog, rejoice.

For anyone unfamiliar with this feature, Sections allow site owners to split their website up into segments. It's up to your organisation how you section up your site, but here are some examples:

  • Section the site by function, for example, help and docs
  • Section the site by department, for example, the business and law faculty
  • Section the site by marketing campaign, for example any path that contains "Clearing 2025".

Sections are available for everyone on Plus and Enterprise plans. Site admins can set up Sections in the Settings menu, and created sections will become visible after the following site scan.

Future update 👀

At the moment, the section switcher is a very functional MVP.

MVP: A minimum viable product (MVP) is the earliest version of a product, with only the features that are essential to make it usable. The development team will observe how customers use the MVP and gather feedback to help determine how to improve further iterations of the product.

We had Sam, our designer, give it some love, which you can see on ProductBoard. If you would like to see this sooner rather than later, give it a vote and provide any feedback.

Dictionary changes 📇

If you've been adding words to the dictionary recently, you might have noticed some changes. A modal now appears when you add a misspelling to the dictionary. The modal explains what happens next and how it will impact your content quality score.

What has changed?

Added words disappear immediately from the misspellings list, although the scores will not update until the next scan.

Dictionary audit trail

Words in your dictionary now show the date they were added and the author so you can easily see who and when added each word.

Accessibility statement updates 🧑‍⚖️

With the European Accessibility Act (EAA) coming into effect in June, more organisations will be required to meet accessibility requirements on their websites and apps.

Part of this is the requirement to publish an Accessibility Statement. This month we updated our accessibility statement, including a statement for the Insytful app, too.

Your accessibility statement should demonstrate your commitment to inclusivity, indicate what you are doing to make your website accessible and provide information on how to report any accessibility issues.

For example, users of Insytful can say, "We regularly scan our site using Insytful for ongoing automated accessibility checks".

Honourable mentions and bugs

It's not a monthly update from Insytful without some bug updates and feature enhancements. This month we tackled:

  • Enhancement: Long urls in lists have been updated to now wrap to the next line.
  • Bug fix: The "Update app" button has been fixed so it is no longer hiding behind elements on some screens.
  • Bug fix: Broken links on the individual page view are clickable on smaller screens.
  • Honourable mention: The Insytful logo went on adventure, but it has now returned to its rightful place.

Spring clean your website

Your website might look great on the surface, but behind the scenes, it could be wasting energy and delivering a poor user experience.

Digital Cleanup Day is a worthwhile prompt to reduce your carbon footprint and make your website more efficient. So here our practical web audit checklist to help reduce CO₂ emissions and make your website work smarter.

Did you know the PDF is over 30 years old?

Adobe created the Portable Document Format (PDF) in 1993, initially designed to enable consistent document formatting across devices. Over 30 years later, we're still using PDFs to share information, but for accessibility's sake, they need to go. If you're not convinced, we've written six reasons to stop using PDFs on your website.

That's a wrap on March 2025

That's everything we got up to in March!

Keep your eyes peeled for more product updates, feature releases and bug fixes in our April update.
