PDF accessibility

Plus and Enterprise Insytful subscriptions can identify PDF documents with accessibility and readability issues.

Checking for accessibility

These checks highlight opportunities to improve the accessibility of your PDF documents.

The PDF accessibility report advises whether a document is machine-readable, provides an accessibility score and a list of passed and failed audits.

Metadata checks

Insytful detects whether PDF documents are missing metadata. PDF metadata is crucial to maintaining accessibility standards and provides essential information to assistive technology.

Insytful checks for the following and flags if information is missing:

  • Title
  • Keywords
  • Language
  • Creator
  • Producer
  • Author
  • Date created
  • Date modified
  • Format version
  • File size

Automated vs manual checks

Only a few of accessibility issues can be automatically detected by software, so manual testing is also encouraged.
